How receiving faxes works

The following slide depicts the incoming fax handling by SilentFax in the most general sense.

With or without the DID information, the SilentFax's fax routing logic determines who should receive the fax as set up by the Administrator. SilentFax then delivers and optionally archives the fax according to the user's settings.

The following list offers more specific details on fax routing options and SilentFax models.

Channel-based Routing

  • This is a non-DID routing by using SilentFax Standard model.
  • Each channel (i.e. fax line) is assigned to a user or a group of users.
  • This option is the easiest to implement for most small-size organizations.
  • If you don't have a DID service from Telco, this is the only option.
  • DID-to-DTMF Routing

  • This is a DID option by using SilentFax Standard model.
  • You must have a DID service from Telco and a compatible PBX system.
  • This option provides a reliable fax DID application without any additional cost.
  • T1 DID/DNIS (digital) Routing

  • You must have a dedicated T1/PRI line and DID service from Telco.
  • This routing option works with SilentFax T1 model.
  • DID (analog) Routing

  • You must have DID trunks and DID service from Telco.
  • This routing option works with SilentFax DID model.
  • CSIS/CallerID Routing

  • As commonly used, this is a supplement to the Channel Routing option.
  • Available in all models, but DID-compatible systems wouldn't need this option.
